When a tattoo is applied, a needle embeds ink particles into the dermis, the deepest layer of skin. Immediately, your immune system sends bacteria eating cells, phagocytes, to eat up the foreign ink particles. Due to the deep placement and large size of the particles, the phagocytes are unable to remove them. However, they continuously nibble away at the ink particles over time which explains why tattoos are permanent but fade and lose color over time.
Laser tattoo removal helps speed up the natural fading process by breaking up the ink particles into tiny fragments. During a treatment, our Astanza Trinity laser will emit multiple ultra-quick pulses of light energy onto your unwanted tattoo. The trapped ink particles will absorb the light energy, heat up, and shatter into tiny fragmented particles. These tiny particles are then small enough to be naturally flushed out by your immune system through your lymphatic system.
Over the weeks following each treatment, you will see your tattoo fade more and more until no ink is visible in the skin. Multiple treatments are needed to achieve complete ink removal. The number of treatments needed is unique to each patient and their tattoo.

The Astanza Trinity
Bella Luna has invested in the industry leading Astanza Trinity to perform all laser tattoo removal treatments. This innovative multi-wavelength technology is trusted by the leading tattoo removal practices worldwide, including our Amarillo clinic.
The Astanza Trinity is an advanced system that combines the power of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser and a Q-switched ruby laser. Combined, these lasers emit a total of three wavelengths – 1064 nm, 532 nm, and 694 nm – that effectively treat and successfully remove the widest range of tattoo ink colors. Most traditional lasers are only equipped with two wavelengths and are unable to treat multicolored tattoos, especially those with resistant green and blue inks. However, the Trinity’s 694 nm ruby wavelength specifically targets and shatters stubborn pigments like vibrant green and bright blue, resulting in complete removal on the most colorful tattoos.
The Trinity uses high pulse energies and ultra-short pulse durations for better ink shattering and optimal fading. The Trinity is safe to use on all skin types and is designed to reach deeper in the skin without causing harm to the surrounding skin tissue.
The Zimmer Cryo
Bella Luna puts patient comfort and satisfaction above all else. That is why we have invested in the Zimmer Cryo cooling machine. Unlike other skin numbing solutions, the Zimmer Cryo blows freezing cold air (-30°C) on the skin before, during, and after your treatment, for quick, prolonged numbing of the treatment site.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need to achieve complete removal?
Most patients need between 5 and 10 treatments to completely remove their tattoo. Patients with older or faded tattoos may only need 3 to 4 treatments. Because every patient and their tattoo is different, there is no way of knowing the exact number of treatments one will need without assessing the tattoo in person. Bella Luna uses a variety of factors to best estimate the number of treatments your tattoo will need. These factors include:
Age of tattoo
Size of tattoo
Location of tattoo
Tattoo ink colors
Depth of ink
Density of ink
Is laser tattoo removal painful?
Many patients compare the laser to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Others have compared the procedure to having a tattoo applied. Every patient has a different pain threshold and will experience a different sensation. Overall, the procedure is very tolerable. Furthermore, laser tattoo removal is very quick procedure that lasts as little as 1 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo being treated. Bella Luna has invested in the Zimmer Cryo cooling machine to numb the skin before, during, and after your treatment, maximizing patient comfort and minimizing any pain associated with the laser.
Are there side effects to laser tattoo removal?
The most common side effects of laser tattoo removal are temporary redness, swelling, itching, blistering, scabbing, and skin discoloration. All of these side effects are temporary and heal over time. Do not be alarmed by any blisters or scabs that may form. These are very common side effects and are actually great signs that your body is working to remove the ink from your skin. Refrain from picking or popping any scabs or blisters, as doing so can lead to infection and more serious unwanted side effects. As long as patients follow proper aftercare instructions outside of our clinic, they will experience flawless results.
How much does laser tattoo removal cost?
Bella Luna offers affordable per treatment pricing based on the size of the tattoo being treated. All patients are given free consultations and tattoo assessments to determine a pricing quote and discuss the number of treatments needed. We also offer special treatment packages.
Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up tattoo?
Absolutely! Cover-up tattoos are a great way to conceal an unwanted tattoo. Unfortunately, many tattoo artists have difficulty completely hiding a new tattoo that contains a lot of dark inks. Laser tattoo removal is the perfect solution for lightening an existing tattoo. Fading an original tattoo down gives a tattoo artist a cleaner canvas to work on and more flexibility with their design.
Bella Luna also offers selective tattoo removal for patients looking to remove just a specific portion of their tattoo.
